A word from our owner

Jack’s Stay is more than just a nod to Salcombe’s rich maritime history. Its very name illustrates the affection our family has for the sea

‘Jack’ is an old slang term meaning ‘Sailor’ and ‘Stay’ is a nautical term referring to a cable, between two ships or a ship to a port which was used to haul goods and sometimes even personnel between two points.

Our seafaring family history spans generations. With childhood family holidays in Salcombe, an Aunt from neighbouring Cornwall and a stint at Dartmouth Naval College - All testament to our deep family affiliation for all things nautical.

Now the younger generation is getting involved with sailing lessons. Even Darcy our Cockerpoo enjoys a splash in the waves and a run around on one of the nearby sandy beaches.

Things to do

Salcombe, A historic sailing town, with its picturesque and sheltered harbour. Children and adults alike will be delighted by the beautiful beaches and sapphire blue, crystal clear waters - An absolute jewel in South Devon’s crown.

Captivating all year round, Salcombe really comes to life in the summer months and the buzz of this lively seaside community is absolutely irresistible.

Coastal towns don’t get much better than this. Traditional sailing boats speed past fabulous yachts. The waterfront shops are plentiful. Craftsmanship is alive and well in Salcombe and local artisans peddle their beautiful goods alongside more well-known designer brands. Add to this a mouthwatering array of some of the best restaurants and bistro’s in the county and you’ve got yourself the perfect destination.

Jump on the ferry between Salcombe and East Portlemouth and escape the crowds for the day. Or for the more energetic, pick up the coast path and take in the spectacular views. The National Trust’s Overbecks is a nearby and well worth a visit Take a look around its famous gardens with it’s rare and exotic plants.

So, whether you’re looking for an adrenaline-fuelled adventure holiday, a relaxing and chilled getaway or something in-between. Salcombe has something for everyone.
