Nestled sleepily in a corner of Bantham Village, Sherriffs is a thoroughly warm and welcoming ground floor holiday apartment. It is perfect for families, particularly those with younger children or for anyone who has limited mobility.
Arguably it is one of the prime spots in this tiny South Devon Village. Across the road is the local pub and restaurant. It is a five-minute walk from Sherriffs to the quaint harbour on the Avon estuary and no more than eight minutes walk down to Bantham beach - voted one of the best beaches in the UK. This is an unpretentious and easy property which enjoys a truly beautiful surrounding area.
The light and airy galley kitchen has plenty of prep space, an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, large fridge, microwave, toaster and all the items you would expect to find in a well-equipped family kitchen.
The dining area is separated from the kitchen by a wide breakfast bar and has a dining table for up to 8 people and good storage in the attractive farmhouse dresser. To the side is a lovely conservatory with ample seating, a television, DVD player and blue-tooth radio. French Doors open on to the terrace, with views across the lawn all the way down to the river.
There are 3 comfortable bedrooms.
Bedroom one enjoys a king-size double bed, and glass door on to the terrace with river views. The second bedroom has twin beds and a large chest of drawers. This room also has a washbasin and en-suite shower.
A third family bedroom has bunk beds and a single bed, and storage space and shelving containing a good collection of books for quieter days.
There is a family bathroom with shower over the bath, a basin and toilet, along with a very handy separate toilet and washbasin.
A small laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer and a small chest freezer can be found at the right-hand end of the verandah.
The garden has an extensive lawn with steps that lead down through a well maintained and attractive garden to a beautiful tree-lined path which leads down to Bantham Quay. The table on the terrace seats up to 8 people, perfect for sunset watching, alfresco dining and the occasional meteor shower!
Why Sheriffs is so special to the owners - Liz and Roger
Roger first came down to Bantham as a young boy in 1952 and after many holidays over the years with family and friends they bought this property following an unexpected phone call from the then owner. They were given half an hour to decide whether they wanted to buy it! Three generations of family later they are still enjoying holiday life there (as much as the family of house-martins that nest at the rear of the property!)
Nothing compares to those few days in Bantham, when you arrive, take a deep breath and relax into the village. It’s timeless and unchanging. Everything revolves around the tide and the silence, and the wonderful night sky with no light pollution is just magical.
